Posted in Business on 31.01.10

Telstra Corporation Ltd. is a telecommunications company in Australia. The Telstra news that is known is that the company was earlier owned by the Australian government. Today the company provides service in local and long distance telephony, mobile services, dialup and wireless, DSL and cable internet. The company was privatised in between 1996 and 2006 and now the headquarters are located in Melbourne Australia.

If you look into the Telstra news items of the past you will get to know that the company was formerly controlled by the Postmaster-General's Department and this responsibility was transferred to the Australian Postal Commission. Competitive Telstra news tells us that Optus has been the largest and most aggressive competitor of Telstra. While all other companies that offer fixed line services need to deal with Telstra, Optus has its own infrastructure and does not have to interact or liaison with Telstra.

It was big Telstra news in 2000 when the company decided to drop its slogan 'making life easier'. The original logo with a telephone receiver as the main image was also changed to include more Next gen graphics in keeping with all the other Telstra news that was being announced about expansion.

The privatisation of Telstra occurred in phases and therefore there was a buzzword around Telstra news in 1997, 1999 and 2006. In the first phase about a third of the shares were diluted. The second phase of this Telstra news showed another 16 percent being sold to the public. In the third phase the government now retains only 17% of the ownership.
